  1. That’s not freedom, that’s idiocy. I wonder how many accidents this nonsense will cause because some foolish eighteen year olds with fresh driver’s licenses think they can copy the action.

  2. I’m going to say the number of accidents directly caused by this movie will be equal to the number of accidents caused by 13 year old boys reading Harry Potter slash fic who subsequently decide they’d like to have sex with a dragon.

  3. I wouldn’t be worried about kids watching fast track and driving recklessly…i’d be much more worried about kids watching CSI and becoming serial killers, kids watching buffy and driving stakes into people, and girls watching bionic woman and chopping off their own limbs in the hopes that they will be replaced with robotic parts.

  4. Wait a sec, isn’t Kete the woman who defends pedophiles and delights in kiddie porn? And she’s worried about people driving fast? That’s rich!

  5. Oh, you’re *all* so witty! No, I’m not the woman defending pedophiles, nor do I delight in kiddie porn – but unlike you all who claim to be born in the land of the brave and the free (snort), I am the one who will defend a writer’s right to write whatever they chose even if it appals me. And now go ahead and call me a nazi again.
And Todd and others, unlike going and having sex with dragons or chopping off your own limbs to become the next bionic whatever driving too fast is a real opportunity – especially here where you can legally go as fast as you like and your car will give on the autobahn. Watching CSI and wanting to become a serial killer makes no sense as it’s demonstrated on that show that they’re found out and how. But advertising illegal street racing as the epitome of freedom?
Oh well, I didn’t expect something worthwhile from Lee and of course he never disappoints me.

He keeps you coming back, though… so clearly there’s something about him you can’t resist!

  7. For what it’s worth, Kete, your concerns did occur to me during the development and production of FAST TRACK. The races are clearly depicted as illegal and dangerous. It’s repeatedly stated in the show that the races are held in abandoned, industrial areas that are closed to “civilian” traffic by the participants. On top of that, we also depict the consequences of illegal street racing…several racers are killed and severely injured during the course of the story. That said, I find your objections ludicrous. Our show is no more dangerous than any other TV series…from EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND to THE SHIELD.
As for your CSI example, think a minute. The series routinely shows how bad guys leave forensic evidence behind that they might not have been aware of. The series has been cited before by law enforcement professionals as making their jobs harder…the series actually shows felons how they leave evidence and unintentionally gives them techniques for avoiding capture. Should the series and its three spin-offs be banned?
LAW AND ORDER also does that…it even offers novel legal arguments to avoid conviction. Let’s take that show off the air, too.
ER and HOUSE show medical techniques and offer diagnoses that are highly controversial and often totally inaccurate. How many people are dying because they are mis-reading their own symptoms? It’s an out-rage. Let’s yank that show off the air, too.
A child who was a fan of THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN lost his leg when he tried to stop the speeding car he was in by sticking his foot on the road…should the series have been canceled becuase of that? I think so. It was irresponsible to depict a bionic man since we all know they don’t exist. What if kids want to be like him and start leaping off buildings?
COLUMBO routinely showed people how to commit the perfect murder…except the bad guy always made one tiny mistake. Well, now that we know the mistake to avoid, couldn’t we use those ingenious schemes to kill someone and get away with it? We should ban COLUMBO.
While I was slightly concerned that I might be glorifying illegal and dangerous behavior, in general I find it is ridiculous, pointless, and creatively smothering to alter fiction on the off-chance that one moron might try to recreate it. If writers followed that thinking, there would be no fiction… there certainly wouldn’t be any action movies or crime movies.

  8. I love Erin, too. When she walked into the casting session, it was as if the character had stepped right out of my imagination and become flesh-and-blood…and this was before Erin even began her audition. It was startling. I prayed she could act. And when she did her audition, and nailed it, I was so thankful I almost fell to my knees and thanked God. I was beginning to think we would never find the right actress to play the part. I am very, very happy with my entire cast…but Erin was literally the woman I imagined as I was writing.

  9. So, Fast Track was aired here in Germany – and I even caught it, although I watch TV relatively seldom only. Well, I endured for 20/25 minutes, then I turned it off to read some fanfic. Can we say trite and boring?
