Where Am I?

Sorry I’ve been scarce around here lately… and it’s only going to get worse.

I’ve been busy rushing to finish my 8th (and probably last) DIAGNOSIS MURDER novel which is entitled THE LAST WORD and is due August 1. I’ve also been teaching a TV writing class two nights a week at UCLA (and having a blast doing it) and an on-line class at Writers University (with Bill Rabkin).

And on Monday, I’m heading off to Germany, where I will be teaming up for a week with Bill Finkelstein (LAW & ORDER, L.A. LAW) to teach established TV writer/producers how to develop and run "American style" episodic dramas. I don’t know how much Internet access I will have… or time to post… while I am in Germany, but I will try to check in here.

I’ve also been writing my Natalie Blogs, giving some thought to my fourth MONK novel and working on a bunch of TV series ideas that Bill Rabkin and I are going to be pitching around town when I get back.

But at least I update my blog more often than my friend Gregg Hurwitz does.

  1. Lee –
Please report back on what showrunning is like in europe. I assume by the invitation you’ve received that europe is making a run for competing in the TV market. Should be interesting…

I’ve seen German TV on satellite. Good luck. See you in ten years.

  3. That means there is hope we’ll get some decent episodic dramas over here?! It’d be too good to be true.
Hope you’ll like it here in Germany, you’ve chosen the summer of the decade to come over. Before I forget it: Flensburger, Wilkenburger, Hasseröder, Paulaner and Beck’s are good beers. (I wouldn’t say that’s the nicest thing about our country, but it’s in the top 10, I’ll admitt that.) 🙂

  4. Have a great trip, Lee! BTW, Jean at Book ‘Em said she (they) were going to try to get you there to sign some HAWAII books before you left. Did they get in touch with you?

  5. I offered to come in and sign some books before I left or right after I return (to make up for having to cancel my signing), but they haven’t gotten back to me.

Bwahahaha! Jack’s so right! I think you’ll have to apply for citizenship, Lee. If Germans can’t do something it’s Movie/TV (other than news or science) – I don’t know why they’re still trying.
Should you happen to be near Düsseldorf, get in touch, so you see I’m real. 😉

  7. Hey,
if you read this, tonight (Monday, 24th) RTL television will air the TV movie “The unsolvable cases of Mr. Sand”, which reads like a German “Monk” (RTL also airs the “true Monk”). Could be fun to watch.
