Edgar Award Nominations Announced

Mystery Writers of America is proud to announce on the 202nd anniversary of the birth of Edgar Allan Poe, its Nominees for the 2011 Edgar Allan Poe Awards, honoring the best in mystery fiction, non-fiction and television published or produced in 2010. The Edgar® Awards will be presented to the winners at our 65th Gala Banquet, April 28, 2011 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, New York City.

  1. Hello Lee,
    I have looked through the list of nominations. I don’t see anything that is self-published. What, if anything, do you make of that? Obviously, there is some success to be had with self-publishing, but if you want an Edgar, is the traditional route the only path?

    The screenplay award was dropped a few years ago due to apathy from Hollywood. The studios and film-makers weren’t interested in submitting their films or supplying screeners for consideration (as they do for awards given by the WGA, SAG, DGA etc.) The MWA couldn’t afford to send the judges out to see every crime/mystery/suspense movie that was released theatrically in the U.S…so the award was dropped. As far as I know, we haven’t heard any complaints from film-makers, or anyone else, about it.
