Variety reports that Christian Bale is returning to play Batman in THE DARK KNIGHT, which will feature Heath Ledger as The Joker (quite a turn from Jack Nicholson). Christopher Nolan will direct the movie, which will be written by his brother Jonah (from a story by David Goyer and Christopher Nolan). The movie is already set for release in May 2008, up against the so-far-untitled 22nd Bond movie and IRON MAN.
Ledger’s an interesting choice. At least this time the Joker won’t have a paunch.
I always thought British actor Richard E. Grant would have been perfect for the 1989 role. He was thin, with a long face and he had that big creepy grin that wouldn’t have required a prosthesis.
Wow, Patrick…you’re right. http://film.onet.pl/_i/news/duze/r/richard_e_grant_1.jpg
I once read that Ray Liotta was considered for the part of The Joker in the 1989 movie. Ray’s great at playing psychos, so I think he would have been a great Joker back then.
As for Heath Ledger as The Joker…I’m not very excited by the idea.
Batman vs. Bond vs. Iron Man! Cool! Whose gadgets will triumph?
