Engines for Bootlegging

I was looking for information on the TV series HARRY O today…and one of the sponsored Google
listings took me to a slick site that sells bootleg DVDs of TV shows. So did the same search on Yahoo.Top_banner_1

At DVDAvenue.tv (which also does business under the name TVDVDmania.tv, DVDCraze.tv,TVDVDPlanet.com and TVAddicts.tv and probably a whole bunch of others) you can buy complete series boxed sets of shows
like SPENSER: FOR HIRE, BOSTON PUBLIC, JUDGING AMY, ED, JAG, ADAM-12, WONDER
WOMAN, EMERGENCY, NY UNDERCOVER, HAWAII FIVE-O, IT TAKES A THIEF, DYNASTY, STREETS
OF SAN FRANCISCO, all of which are currently not being sold commercially by
their rights-holders.   Tvdvdplanet

But DVDAvenue doesn’t stop there…they are even selling
bootleg versions of shows like REMINGTON STEELE, KNIGHTRIDER, SEAQUEST, THE
NIGHT STALKER, THE PRISONER, PRIME SUSPECT and MY SO-CALLED LIFE which are
readily available at your local Best Buy…only they charge a lot more for them. That’s assuming they actually send you the bootlegs  and aren’t just a honey-trap to get credit card numbers from TV geeks.Top_banner2

I’m stunned that the legal departments of Warner Brothers,
NBC/Universal, and Paramount Television haven’t caught on to these guys yet.
It’s not like DVDAvenue.tv is being discreet about their law-breaking.

Google and Yahoo take money from these bootleggers to make their listings show up at the top of any search for a TV show. And these search engines get paid for click-throughs to the bootlegging sites… doesn’t that mean they are profitting off an illegal activity? Don’t they screen their advertisers at all?

UPDATE 1-22-07:  I received this comment from one of my readers:

I too was ripped off by these
guys. I made a number of inquiries abou them. It turns out they are
already under investigation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, this
because they are in fact located in Canada. I spoke with a Sgt.
Jean-Yves Ducharme, who told me that they have been conducting an
investigation since late 2006 and he would welcome any call from those
defrauded by these guys. Here is his contact info:

  1. You think these DVD’s are “complete”, or ‘filmed off TV’ such as syndicated reruns etc. In which they are often cut by 3 to 4 minutes of original air time. Such as ‘Emergency!’ on TV Land was severely cut for commercials from original airing.
People are selling complete sets (DVD’s) of ‘Third Watch’ as well. The first 2 seasons were released by Warner Brothers, but ONLY in Japan which is Region 2 and not playable in the US(Region 1).
Yeah, would be nice to get if no where else available but quality, how much am I missing from the original, as well as other legal issues weigh heavy.

  2. Several local SF and comics conventions give dealer room space to folks who sell bootleg TV DVDs. That’s dangerous in light of case law holding that flea markets can be held liable for copyright infringement for allowing sellers of bootleg audio recordings to operate.

  4. Hello, does anyone have any ideas how to stop these bootleggers. I have stoped them on Yahoo and google adwords but they change their site name and keep comming back. They don’t seem to care at all about the law or that they have been caught by the copyright owner.

  7. My question:
“Are these legal copies? I noticed the Matlock series is not available anywhere else and has not been ‘officially’ released. Are these made from the original source files (Contain no commercials, screen markings or station id?)”

  10. Hi, I have also been burned by this ‘dodgy, multiple fronts company’. Desperately trying to find the full set of ‘I Dream of Jeannie’, I could only locate it at tvdvdplanet.com (or the various, various other names listed above). From the website it all looked legit, but then I had a very similar thing happen as to what others have reported here. The dvds arrived, with some minor damage…however, the copies were clearly VERY poorly burnt, many episodes were missing, some episodes repeated on different discs, episodes were all out of order, the menu didnt work and there were numerous tv ads throughout ALL of the dvds (some had more ads than show!) Not to mention the quality of the picture and sound was VERY bad. Overall I have to say that I have NEVER in my life seen dvd’s burnt so badly. Who have they got working for them, and do they even check the dvds before they send them out??? I have contacted this company numerous times via email and their ‘live chat’ service. They keep promising me they will send me out a prepaid envelope to send the faulty dvd’s back in as well as send me out a new set of proper dvds…. but they just keep telling me its on its way, and its been over 6 weeks now since I first contacted them about this problem! Id like to know what others have done about this issue, who should I report them to, and what are the chances of getting a refund on the $180 AU I spent?? Thanks.

  13. as i came across the net i got hungup on this sobering winnie site (or at least this part of it) where their seem to be some people complaining on how they got hooked by a wham-bam-ridiculous to-good-to-be-true-bargain-pricing-offer normally a numb headed nerd would be able to notice and get a mind on that there must be something foul and smelly on behalf of these super cheap products.
i mean – wasn’t it clear from the beginning that when you get a set of DVDs with 70-80-150 or even more episodes for a scrap-pricing of sometimes 40-100$ or even less that it may be perhaps “illegal” what’s going on!
ever got that in mind before you start bitchin’ around in the first place – or complaining about that you’ve been “robbed & laid” and then go pussing about it at the FBI for revenge like a little baby?
but well – on the other hand it is more than just only of understanding to me that there will be some people who get a nick out of the obviously present and existing public demand for offering such products when the original companies and owners are to knuckelheaded to get a legal product on the market when demand clearly should be seen and served.
and also it should be clear that there are a number of people on this planet who will take advantage of such offers even when companies at last do recognise that there is a need and chip in – but then mostly for a ridiculously high pricing which never holds up with the real worth of the product itself.
like see – just for an example – the STAR TREK releases (or many many others) going from 60-90$ and up for a single season box. damned!!!
i’m not throwing mud and putting owners in a wrong corner even though it sounds like it. naturally: “everybody has the right to put on a price for their product at their own thought”…
    …but also:
no one should be surprised and complaining when potential costumers do not except “robbery” on behalf of some greedy companies interests and policies on (mostly) old productions wich have paid themselves off a numerous times in the past. assuming that interested customers are all numb and wack in the head and will be stupid enough to go for anything. even if some do, the majority will not.
it’s just an idea of keeping mind set on reasonable good 2 cents.
a good example for reasonable marketing is the “F-R-I-E-N-D-S All (10) Seasons Box” for approximately around 200$. that is a legal and fair offer by WARNER BROS that almost anyone with “healthy” legal interest can go for.
do to piracy – not even a very big chance. because it would not really work out well by the small profits this would throw off for the work of thieving – but will work out for the companies because they simply sell a huger number of copies in an excellent quality.
    so what should we learn?
if everyone would just be a little more reasonable: the companies about their “maybe” customers needs and demands, marketing and pricing – and the costumers themselves about their buying behaviors – it would just work out fine and in a fair mutual benefit for both sides.

Film piracy in the UK is:
A business generating over £270m a year for criminals
A crime which affects other people and the wider community – involving benefit fraud, people smuggling, drugs and other serious criminality
A real crime, punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment
The seemingly innocent purchase of a cheap DVD from an irregular source can therefore have far reaching effects. For further examples of the effects of DVD piracy in the UK, please go to our Media Centre and view the latest case studies and statistics.
While the Federation is not a statutory body, it is accepted as a prosecution authority in its own right and facilitates the investigation and prosecution of those involved in this type of crime.
“DVD and online piracy must be recognised as a crime of growing national significance. In 2005 alone FACT seized over 2 million pirate DVDs and our in house forensic services team assisted the Police, Trading Standards and HM Revenue & Customs in examining close to 1 million DVDs.
Our aim is to help create an effective deterrent to film piracy in the UK by increasing public awareness of this type of criminal activity that can have a destructive influence on local communities.
Through our technical and forensic capabilities FACT continues to support law enforcement agencies to increase the number of investigations of the principal figures involved and to squeeze and close down their sales and distribution networks.
With your help and support we can do more. The biggest thing you can do is not to buy them.”
    Raymond Leinster
Following the intelligence-led initiative, the ten were arrested under suspicion of being involved in the production and sale of counterfeit optical discs, and some of those arrested were also in receipt of benefits. Cash, drugs and cigarettes were also seized during the raids. Those arrested were taken to police stations in North Wales and Cheshire and are helping with further enquiries.

CONVICTED SEX OFFENDER RECEIVES 15 MONTH JAIL SENTENCE FOR FILM PIRACY OFFENCES
Gary Fenn, age 35, from Ilford, Essex was sentenced yesterday to 15 months imprisonment at Snaresbrook Crown Court for Conspiracy to Defraud the film industry and another 15 months for Conspiracy to Defraud the music industry – both sentences to run concurrently.
Fenn is currently serving a five year jail term for making indecent images of children and yesterday’s sentence is to run consecutively. The Judge recommended that seven and a half months be served in prison and the remainder on licence.
Also sentenced yesterday at Snaresbrook was Fenn’s co-defendant Paul Tooley, age 31, from Chadwell St Mary, Essex, who received a jail term of 10 months for Conspiracy to Defraud the film industry and 10 months for Conspiracy to Defraud the music industry (both sentences to run concurrently). The Judge also made a recommendation that he serve five months in prison and five months on licence. Both defendants pleaded guilty to these Conspiracy charges. Whilst Tooley is a co-conspirator in this case, he was not involved in the making of indecent images of children.
The case was prosecuted by the Federation Against Copyright Theft (‘FACT’) and the organisation was awarded full costs by the Court. In addition, all property seized, including computers and equipment, was ordered for destruction.
Both Fenn and Tooley were manufacturing pirate DVDs and CDs and selling them on local markets and via advertisements and were arrested in May 2004.
Kieron Sharp, FACT Director General commented: “I am pleased that another FACT prosecution has been so successful. Both defendants were involved in a film and music piracy operation that was making them thousands of pounds and was deliberately intended to defraud legitimate FACT member companies.
This is also another example of the other very serious criminality with which film piracy can be associated. FACT is increasingly able to evidence this associated criminality and bring it to the public’s attention. ”

  16. You guys all need to understand a little bit about tvdvdplanet and the other names they go by. And you need to realize what companies like them are selling.
First off, TVDVDPLANET, DVDAVENUE, DVDCRAZE are not US based. Even tho the whois information on their domain names often says miami florida.. you will notice the address doesn’t exist and the zipcode isn’t real. Also they do go a step further to promise satisfaction and offer live help chat but it is all a front. They have no intentions on helping you or replacing your discs. If you track back their whois and name server addresses you eventually come to a Llc Globalwholesaletrade company which is registered in the Federation of Russia where they don’t follow US copyright laws. Nor can the MPAA or any other american agency do anything about it.
The sets are also using cheap cases from china, which is also known for their bootlegging, however china actually uses “real” studio quality prints, where as these guys are just using Home recordings.
I have purchased a few recorded shows from sites like theirs (tho not theirs specifically) and I think you guys area bit overexcited to bad mouth these people because the quality is not as good as real official copies.. but they aren’t supposed to be. Thats why they are cheaper. I will admit tvdvdplanets prices are much higher than where i’ve bought stuff, but you are also getting professional looking custom artwork on the cases and they are shrink wrapping them. So you are paying extra for that.
Most sites I’ve bought from just use paper sleeves and generic dvd media and I get what I expect. Lower, 1980’s quality for a hell of a cheap price. But I almost always get replacement discs if they are defective from them because they aren’t out to screw you, they are just collectors of old tv shows like you.
But this is NOT stealing, or infringement, or anything else. Realize that you ALL probably have VCRs and TiVo’s in your house. Are you stealing when you record a show from normal free tv networks? The tv shows are free to watch for everyone. As of the 1984 Sony vs Universal Studios case, VCR Recordings for personal use are legal. So long as you are not broadcasting the copies on a television network publically, they can’t tell you not to watch it again and can’t tell you not to borrow it to your friends or make a copy for your friend if he pays you $5.
As a tv show collector, I like being able to get the shows that aren’t out yet.. or that aren’t completely released yet.. but really the TV Networks are scamming you. They give you the show for free the first time, but make you pay to have it on DVD? How is that any different than what these guys do? They have higher quality in the real version but thats only because most companies like tvdvdplanet compress the shows down.
But really these are for fanboys who can’t get a hold of their old favorites because they don’t exist yet. They are meant for collectors. I don’t agree with tvdvdplanets methods but I am a fanboy who loves watching Perfect Strangers (which isn’t available anywhere else yet).
The sites that sell the recordings are heroes as long as they are honest about what they are selling. They allow us to watch the same shows we could have watched ourselves if we were smart enough to record them all back in the day.

FACT WELCOMES TIGHTENING OF LAWS ON FILM PIRACY
The Federation Against Copyright Theft (‘FACT’) is pleased with the announcement by The Chancellor, Gordon Brown, in his Pre Budget Report, following the recommendations of Andrew Gowers, that stronger enforcement is needed to tackle the problem of film piracy.
We welcome the statement that there will be tighter penalties for illegal copying and piracy and the recognition of intellectual (‘IP’) crime in the National Community Safety Plan, as well as the additional funding for enforcement by Trading Standards. It is also pleasing to see that there is a recommendation in the Gowers Report for the regulation of so-called ‘occasional sales’ such as markets and car boot sales.
Kieron Sharp, FACT Director General commented: “Film piracy has been seen by some as a ‘soft’ crime yet it brings harm and other serious criminal activity to local communities. It also has proven involvement with organised crime in the UK and internationally.
FACT has strengthened its resource and capability over the past year and is now the pre eminent anti-piracy organisation in the UK.
Criminals made over £270 million from film piracy in 2005, making this the worst affected single sector for intellectual property crime out of all IP industries. This is revenue that has been lost to the local and national economy and is affecting British jobs.”
FACT works with Police and Trading Standards across the UK to ensure that those involved in film piracy are punished for their actions and we are starting to see some stronger sentencing meted out by the Courts.

EBAY FILM PIRATE HAS RECORD £55,000 ASSETS SEIZURE
    – LORD OF THE RINGS WAS TOP SELLING ITEM –
A prolific seller of pirate DVDs on eBay has been ordered to pay £55,000 under Proceeds Of Crime legislation following a judgement on Friday (1st December) at Bradford Crown Court.
Peter Spencer, who has already served a jail sentence for his piracy activities, had also been the subject of an investigation by the Assets Recovery Agency. This sum is the highest asset seizure to date for a FACT prosecuted film piracy case. The £55,000 was adjudged to be the criminal profit made by Spencer from his pirate DVD sales.
He must now pay the £55,000 to the Exchequer within 12 months or face a two year custodial sentence – with the money still owing and payable to the Exchequer.
FACT brought its own prosecution against Spencer, age 39, from Oakhall Park, Bradford after monitoring his trade in counterfeit DVDs on eBay since 2002. Spencer was sentenced to a six month jail term in May 2006 at Bradford Crown Court.
In just one day in January 2004 Spencer had over 950 pirate DVDs listed for sale on eBay and FACT’s Internet Investigations Team was able to show that just one title alone, Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King, made him over £14,000.
Kieron Sharp, FACT Director General said:
“This is another important milestone and it demonstrates the effectiveness of the Proceeds Of Crime Act. The use of this legislation to target the criminal profits gained from film piracy in addition to the custodial sentences handed down by the Courts is a powerful weapon as this hits criminals hardest – taking away their liberty and their money.
I would like to thank the Assets Recovery Agency and West Yorkshire Police for their diligence and assistance in bringing this case to a successful conclusion.
I hope this result also sends a strong message to those using auction sites such as eBay that they are not immune from prosecution and further action should they trade in counterfeit goods.”

  27. Thanks for the 305 phone number. I was unable to make contact with these guys for over two weeks. I sent e-mail, after e-mail. I called their 877 number, and waited for hours for someone, anyone to come on line with their live chat.
I got to talk to a Harry Stevens at the other end of the 305 number, and he admitted the dvd’s were taken from TV. This is not what they say on the web site.
When I told Harry I disputed the charge, and got a credit from my credit card carrier, he got upset and threatened me with fraud. He told me to cancel the dispute, and he’d give me a credit when I returned the dvd’s, which I am still waiting for. There is no way I’d cancel the dispute and trust these guys to give me a credit.
I believe they are crooks, scamming the public. Again, thanks for the number.

Like a lot of you, I tried calling/emailing them with no response. Much to my amazement, got a notice from postal carrier that there is a package from them at post office. I do not want anything from a bootlegger company. I would like to dispute the charge with my credit card company–do any of you have advice as to whether I should deny acceptance of the delivery, or check out the merchandise to confirm the bootleg/bad quality first? Does anyone have any experience with this aspect of the problem?

It’s awful, I mean, Univeral will NOT release the rest of Adam 12, and teens like me, who just happen to LIKE old TV shows, can’t even get ahold of them to enjoy the rest of the wonderful seasons. That goes for alot of other old shows, also..

It turns out they are already under investigation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, this because they are in fact located in Canada. I spoke with a Sgt. Jean-Yves Ducharme, who told me that they have been conducting an investigation since late 2006 and he would welcome any call from those defrauded by these guys. Here is his contact info:

  33. I just want to thank you for your post exposing TvAddicts.tv. I was sent a link to one of their DVD sets by a friend who wanted it as a birthday present. I was skeptical because the website listed no address for the company, and they were selling a 7-Season set while every other reputable company (i.e. Amazon) only lists 6 in existence! The price was too good to be true, so I did a Google search for company reviews and found your site. You just save me $89.95 of hard earned money and much time and grievance. I am sorry for you and the others who have been scammed. You are right that Google should screen their advertisers. But at least they don’t censor- I found their link AND your site at once through a Google search. Thanks and good luck.

To the person named Ashlee who posted her comment on 12/05/06 at 1:18pm…. you have no sympathy???? Boooo-Hooooo. We really needed it. Now what are we going to do??? “sniffle”. 37. Well well!. So we have a SCAM over there and here. I just got hit about these sites mentioned here like http://www.tvdvdplanet.com and , when i was looking for info The Outer Limits new series Boxsets.
You have to be very carefull about today when see something that are looking to buy from net. Thats sure.
I just would also like to point with little sarcastic feel, that those real companies who have the rigths for the series, that if they would put those at least during some years out on DVD. It would mean that Scammers would have less people to catch because there would be the real products available. Most rigts holders are well known so tis easy to then buy real product. Or at least they would say that “we are not releasing that tv series in next x years” or so.
Because all people are not interested enough to dig out if those boxsets etc. have really released and when they stumble to sites they give their creditcard numbers to Scammers, and bye bye money, or they get something crap instead.
    ——————————————-
In end i would ask if the are any tv series collectors or other that knows. I read from one site, about The Outer Limits new series that MGM would release it starting 2005. It definetly have not, excluding season 1.

  40. Why are old TV-series not available from those who hold the rights? I was very much tempted by an offer on http://www.tvaddicts.tv, and had to spend som time&effort to find this blog, when I was concerned about quality&security.
McCloud was a big hit in Denmark in the beginning of the 70’es. We had only ONE national TV-channel, so everybody watched. A few years back, when our public service channel was celebrating its 50’es anniversary, they sent some episodes of McCloud, and it was great fun! The music is crazy, the political hints have some edge, and Dennis Weaver is actually charming when he plays the innoscent being seduced by the bright ladies, who help him out – no Miami-Vice-soft-porn, but no doubt McCloud can exchange whispering sweet nothing to get most women spin…
I’m sure DVDs with McCloud would sell well, but only season 1&2 have been released – in region 1 in late 2005, and in 2006 in region 2. I asked in New York in spring 2005, and found out McCloud hadn’t even been released on video. Why?
Columbo is sent (again-again), like several other US-series. Does any one know why McCloud is so difficult to get released on DVD, and why it it is not offered to TV-channels like so many other old TV-series?

I did a search for “allmyfavoriteshows scam” after I got the runaround on when my order would be shipped. I got lots of results. I cancelled my order, got my card refunded. Fortunately it was the last transaction before my card expired. They shipped anyway, I refused delivery in writing to the post office and got a reciept fot my letter.
I hope that my dealings with these scammers is over.

  46. My wife and I recently ordered Kolchak: The Night Stalker and WKRP in Cincinnati from TVBoxSet.com on April 7th. The site claims 14 days delivery. Surprise – no DVDs have arrived to date (April 30th).
After reading all the comments here on Lee’s page, I now have serious doubts I’ll ever see the DVDs. Both purchases have already been billed to my credit card.
I also understand the DVDs are merely illegal bootleg copies. TVBoxSets.com doesn’t mention that anywhere, and I’ve triple-checked the entire site. They intentionally mislead customers to believe the DVDs are the authorized copies.
I’ll be contacting my credit card company and requesting refunds, along with canceling my card and having new card numbers issued out. I wouldn’t put it past these bootleggers to sell card info or make other fraudulent use of it.
I’ve also attempted to contact Sgt. Jean-Yves Ducharme with the RCMP and will be supplying him with all the info and documentation he requires to further their investigations.
My disbelief is why Visa and Mastercard is still processing transactions for them (done through Scan-Ex processing as it appears on my statement). I would have thought their processing abilities would be canceled after too many chargebacks were reported.
I wish I had more identity and contact info to provide to everyone other than what’s already been mentioned. Hopefully these little bastards will get what’s coming to them.

  48. I’ve also had problems with tvboxset.com. I wanted to buy the complete Matlock series, which is not “officially” available. I shopped around trying to find the best price and noticed that there are several online companies that seem to be operated by the same people. allmyfavoriteshows.com and tvboxset.com are two of them. The difference is that only tvboxset.com ships to Canada, where I live. I placed my order on April 19th and sent them an email last week to know what my order status was (no reply yet). I called my credit card company and they told me they have no info on Scan-Ex (as it appears on my statement). I find it very frustrating that major credit card companies don’t block out those payments when they know these people are committing fraud. I hope I get my $300 back… I’ll keep you posted.

I tried to call them on two different phones to get only silence, then I tried the e-mail address and all I got was people like you complaining about them. I am really angry that people are allowed to do this to other people. I hope that we can get these bad people to pay ( or go to prison ). well good luck at getting this resolved and I will try my best to help that happen.

  53. Sadly, I just got ripped off big time by TVBOXSETS.COM–remember that name and spread the word to NOT buy from them. They took my order, sent emails that it was received and charged my debit card–and after three weeks, I get an email that their “funds are frozen” and they cannot process the order! They apologize–but I’m out the money–makes me sick to have been so trusting. I’ll never order direct from a site again. Thanks to all who have shared their stories–all we can do is try to let others know before they get ripped off. There should be a law that the hosts of these fraudulent websites are fined or jailed for continued aiding and abetting of these sites . . . that might stop them.

  54. It does appear that these sites mentioned are scammers. I assume many of you were forced to deal with these sketchy characters because there are no alternatives. We are lucky if we are offered even one season of our favorite shows on dvd and if we are so lucky, we are forced to pay unreasonable sums. Why don’t companies like MGM wake up and realize that they should offer their shows for download at low prices. There costs would be low and they would make a profit… That is their goal isn’t it? Almost all of the shows listed on these sites are not currently being sold and, with that being the case, piracy is not the main issue here. To obtain copies of these shows for your viewing pleasure I suggest doing business through e-bay or sell.com as they offer consumers protection. If you do obtain legitimate copies I highly encourage you to back up your files and share them with your fellow fans!

Then after making the purchase starting doing some research and found a lot of sites like this one claiming tvaddict.tv were not to be trusted. Felt pretty sick at this point I can tell you. Contacted my bank after seeing the credit card debited the following day. They recommended keeping all correspondence which I did. Then emailed there website requesting update and explanation for why the card was charged so soon when nothing was available and was informed that the dvds were on back order. I then requested that they cancel the order as I did not wish to wait for the back order to come in. The person replyed that they were do this and sent another email saying a refund to the credit card would be forthcoming. My bank said that it would be enough proof if it still didn’t come through but lo and behold a week later it has shown as a full refund from the card so I count myself lucky. I would recommend to anyone who falls for these guys to attempt to get out of the deal as quickly as possible and report them through your bank card provider as it did work for me I am happy to report.

  57. I discovered the TVBoxSet site on Yahoo! search and then also found them on eBay under “eBay Sponsored Links.” I had some doubts about them but after seeing the eBay thing, I figured they were okay.
I’m a big fan of The Beverly Hillbillies and have been since a child. Now as we all know, Viacom has absolutely butchered the show in syndication; even when TV Land picked the series up, they showed the butchered episodes that have 4 or 5 minutes removed from them. I will watch the butchered episodes on WGN of the morning at 7 AM, but it’s only because that’s all that’s on.
Anyway, I found that TVBoxSet had the complete series for like $180. I knew that I’d never seen an “official” release of the entire series, but being a music fan, I’m also knowledgeable of the fact that many times foreign labels, who are legitimate, will release things not released in the US. So given that, I thought that might be the case w/ TVBoxSet. Sadly, I find AFTER I’ve ordered them that they are a pirating operation.
I had a huge majority of the shows on VHS at one time unedited. WREG in Memphis showed it almost religiously every day and I taped them. Problem being is that the prints they were using were VERY old meaning they had washed out color and had streaks and lines running through the film. Plus, for whatever odd reason, WREG did not have the last 2 1/2 seasons of the show at all. They stopped mid-way through the 1968-69 season and then started all over again w/ the 1962 episodes.
Having said that, it’s scary to me that if I do even receive the DVD’s, they may be of no better quality than what I taped from the old WREG episodes!
So I wonder how stupid Paramount has to be? They could make a fortune releasing the old Hillbillies episodes on DVD!!!!!

I contacted them and initially they were good, promising a replacement and also they would send a postage paid envelope to return the defective discs. They promised to send an Order Confirmation. After waiting a few weeks I had heard nothing, I emailed them which they quickly replied that they were out of stock and a replacement will be shipped soon. I have not heard anything from them since March.

  64. have to been defrauded by the company TV Addicts. I did receive my collection of Emergency but it was the worst work I have ever seen. The shows would get halfway through and would stop. Some of the shows were taped 3 and 4 times. They did not have the whole TV series as they had advertised that they would. I have been in contact with them since November 2, 2006 to get my money back. They keep telling me that they will refund me but I have not received it yet. I have tried turning them into the better business bureau in Canada but they told me they did not have a company listed with the name I had turned them in as which was Planet TV. I have threaten to turn them in but they do not seem to care. They keep promising me that I will get a refund and have even gone as far as telling me that they refunded my money. So I waited the amount of time they told me I needed to wait and it still was not there. Then they told me they had trouble refunding it to my credit card. So I told them that I wanted a cashiers check to reimburse me and to this point I have not received that either. That has been a month ago. I guess I need to know what other avenues I have. By the time all has been said and done they owe me $225 not including all the time I have put into fighting with them to get my money back. Please let me know what I need to do next. .

  70. After having a bad experience with tvboxset.com I did an internet search that sent me to your web site where I read of the troubles other people have had with this and similar scam outfits. Basically, a Google search for the old television series “Remember WENN” turned up an ad offering the complete dvd set. Last July 17 I placed an order and have never received the dvd/s. The company charged my credit card immediately and said the product would arrive between August 1-4. Then on August 29 they sent an e-mail stating that they were having troubles with their shipping department, that some orders had been shipped and returned and would be resent. Naturally my order number was in the problem group. It is clear they were lying, but I had already paid the credit card bill. Now I’m trying to get a refund.
I’ve learned that tvboxset.com operates under several different names. I’ve written to my credit card company, to Google requesting that they no longer accept ads from this outfit, to the Canadian Better Business Bureau to register a complaint and, thanks to a comment on your blog, I’m going to write to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

  71. These crooks are still in business
    they are:
    tvdvdplanet.com,
    dvdavenue.tv,
    tvaddicts.tv,
    tvmilk.com,
    allmyfavoriteshows.com,
    tvseries.tv
And, I guess many more I haven’t found yet.
When one site closes, they open up another one.
Keep phoning them to run up their phone bill & flood the “LIVE CHAT” with the word “SCAM….SCAM….SCAM….SCAM….”
Cut & paste as many as you can. Day & night.
Maybe they will get tired of answering the “Live Chat”
    Thanks

  72. I appreciate the thread – forewarned is fore-armed. I question the wisdom of clicking on the pay-links to drive the “bad-guys” under, though. This will encourage the big ad carriers to keep the ads (and others like them).

  73. Hi, I have been chasing TVDVDPlanet.com for 12 months now for replacements of faulty Mad About You discs. I went in understanding that they were not legal copies as only the 1st and 2nd seasons of Mad About You had been released on Region 1 in the US but nothing in Australia, so, as a fan, I took a punt and tried them out. They sent obviously copied discs in decent cases with nice graphics etc. The quality was on par with my old videos taped from TV at the time. I found that I had problems with maybe 1 in 5 episodes in the set of 7 seasons. I didn’t want a refund I just wanted the replacement discs but they kept telling me they were waiting for replacements etc. Daisy, Bunny and Pia kept responding to my emails (orders@tvaddicts.tv & orders@dvdavenue.tv) but never to let me know my replacements were on the way. It’s really a pity as I am a huge fan of quite a few TV shows and would have spent a fortune with them if their product had been decent. I have asked for a refund but am not holding my breath. In the meantime I have saved quite a lot of money but not ordering anything else with them. By the way I still had my old link to tvdvdplanet.com and have found it has been replaced with an announcement regarding legal action related to the domain name – this is the announcement – By ruling of the National Arbitration Forum, in accordance with the ICANN Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy, the domain name http://www.TVDVDPLANET.com was awarded to Planet Entertainment, Inc., a division of Infinity Resources, Inc., on January 11, 2007. As a result, ownership and control of the domain name http://www.TVDVDPLANET.com has been transferred to Planet Entertainment, Inc.

  74. I have also fallen victim to http://www.allmyfavoriteshows.com and have just tried emailing a complaint to Sgt. Jean-Yves Ducharme of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police – Federal Investigations on the email address supplied up near the top of this page and it was returned to me as “undeliverable (unknown address error)” – does anyone have any updates on this otherwise I will try other means to contact the RCMP?

  75. Mr. Ducharme doesn’t work there anymore! Try to reach the police at 514-939-8307. If you live outside Canada, add the area code (dialling code) “+1” to the number: +1-514-939-8307

  76. Thank you “Customer from Europe” for that information about Sgt Ducharme but I live in Australia and so I really would like to avoid the cost of an international phone call and hence that is why I tried to email Sgt Ducharme and now would like to email whoever else is handling this case or direct my email to the relevant Dept in the RCMP – hence I now ask does anyone have an email address for me to use at the RCMP as I have tried to find one on their website without luck. Thanks.

  77. I was just about to post here again saying that http://www.allmyfavoriteshows.com and http://www.tvaddicts.tv have been down for several days (shut down maybe?) but lo and behold they are both up and running as I type this post! As a matter of interest to others who read here I downloaded and installed a Traceroute program and from my email program (under View, then Message Source) found the Originating IP # for the email I got sent confirming my order from http://www.allmyfavoriteshows.com and, guess what, the Traceroute program traced the IP # (81.29.241.50)and came up with a name LLC GlobalWholesale Trade! Does anyone know of this comany and where it is located – perhaps anyone rading this who lives in Canada might ring the RCMP and advise them of the above details.

  78. Great news everybody – I just rang my bank (who run my visa credit card)and they advised a refund has come thru from “1-877-TV-SERIES 877-887-3743” whch is the name that appeared on my credit card statement for my purcahse from http://www.allmyfavoriteshows.com. However, they have not refunded the amount I paid to them to post my order to me but my bank now informs me that in cases like this they should be refunding the entire amount of the disputed transaction and so my bank is now pursuing them for the final amount so I get a full refund.
The lesson here everyone is to threaten http://www.allmyfavoriteshows.com (and the varous other website addresses they use) that you have/will pursue a “chargeback” through your credit card issuer (bank) and reporting them to other relevant authorties (police, Consumer Affairs Dept etc) – I also took digital photos of the Live Chat screen on my PC as it progressed and then told her of that fact after I got her promise of a refund and said I WILL use this as evidence against them if a refund was not quickly forthcoming – also, do not delete any emails from them, in particular your original order confirmation email from them as your bank will want all relevant documentation if you pursue a “chargeback” (refund) with your bank.
I hope this helps all of you wh have similarly been duped by this shady company.

Charges customers with no evidence of invoice.
So you don’t know that you actually purchased
anything until the bill shows up on your statement.

They came in broken boxes, some of the disks were missing and they were all blatantly copies (and not good ones). I paid more than what was necessary for these as it was gonna be an xmas present for my b/f. Im glad to see the website has been closed down, the name of the guy running this farce was Alan Knight so if anyone knows him please hunt him down for me please lol, coz id have a good few words with him!

  84. My website is running an experiment on this company, by placing an order through tvaddicts.tv.
It is, obviously, a foreign domain, and a purchaser should be wary.
The nefarious anecdotes, however, do not necessarily excuse the intellectual property rights-holders. Witness the ultimate catastrophic failure of the 18th Amendment to the Constitution. If pirates can guarantee, warrant, and deliver a product at an acceptable price, I really think the list of complaints and abuses here would be far, far shorter, if extant at all.
I will update my site/blog as things happen.

  85. Thanks to this blog I avoided buying from these people. I googled “I Spy DVD” and was taken to the tvaddicts.tv site. As far as I could tell it was a legitimate site, but I usually by from Amazon, so I did a liitle research on tvaddicts before I ordered and fortunatley I found your site.
Hopefully an official version of the I Spy series will come out before too long. In the meantime I will wait.

  86. Dumb and Dumber

Back in 2006, I wrote about a TV bootlegger who bought advertising on Google to promote his various websites. Now it turns out that the moron has been using the address of a Winnipeg newspaper as one of his many

  87. This website is a total scam. I ordered from it two or three weeks ago (I was stupid enough to not research the site until after I had already placed an order), and got my order yesterday, of course, a bootleg. I tried contacting them, but their e-mail address and phone number don’t work. I also tried reporting them to the Better Business Bureau, but, as the address tvaddicts.tv has listed is also not valid, the BBB said they could not pursue the matter. Today, I found a charge for almost $100 on my Check Card that I did not remember making. I called the bank, they said the charge originated in Canada (which is where tvaddicts.tv is located, though the IP address traces to Ukraine. I’m in Pennsylvania). Fortunately, they said that they can give me provisional credit for now, and reimburse me after their investigation (in a week or two). They also sent me a new Check Card, and put a hold on my current one.
Fortunately, it looks like I won’t lose any money, besides the initial $81 that I paid for the DVDs. NO ONE ORDER FROM TVADDICTS.TV OR DVDAVENUE.TV (same site, different web address). IT IS A SCAM, YOU WILL BE SCAMED, YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION WILL BE USED.
