Remember DIFF’RENT STROKES? Now imagine it as a drama. Variety reports that UPN has signed producer Darren Star to produce two pilots, one of which is described as:
Neither Sony nor UPN would comment late last week, but it’s believed the
project being penned by [Dan and Ashley McDermott] concerns a pair of orphaned teens who end
up living with their wealthy New York aunt and uncle.
Another original idea I see.
Also brings to mind FAMILY AFFAIR.
And Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Wil Smith’s mom wasn’t dead in that one, but she may as well have been.
There’s only a few basic sitcom templates; the only thing that makes the difference is the cast.
I’m seeing Lee Horsely as the uncle, Martha Raye as the aunt, and Ghost Face Killah of Wu-Tang and Ludacris as the adorable scamps.
Didn’t they learn from what happened to the cast of the original Different Strokes?
