Today is the official publication date for MR. MONK IN OUTER SPACE, my fifth MONK novel. You should be able to find it at bookstores nationwide and, of course, at your favorite internet retailer. The book was more than a little inspired by my own experiences as a writer for Starlog magazine, a supervising producer on SEAQUEST and my, um, "debates" with fanficcers here (you might also notice a nod to my comic novel BEYOND THE BEYOND). I hope you enjoy it!
Enjoyed it indeed. I do have to ask though, since there is a small scene involving a character in the book named “Bill Wheatley,” which, at least to me, is inferred to be a reference to Wil Wheaton ( http://wilwheaton.typepad.com ), are the two of you mutual fans?
Nope, it was entirely unintentional…but now that you mention it, since I was writing about sf fandom, and had Star Trek on my mind, perhaps the choices of names wasn’t as random as I thought. That scene was more inspired by Walter Koenig and Mark Leonard (if memory serves) and how they went around after Star Trek performing plays together.
Hey Lee!
I walked into my local Borders today and Mr. Monk in Outer Space was front and center on the table right in front of the door. Couldn’t miss it!
Congratulations!
