Anthony Lane in the New Yorker:
The general opinion of "Revenge of the Sith" seems to be that it marks
a distinct improvement on the last two episodes. True, but only in the same way
that dying from natural causes is preferable to crucifixion.
The special effects, however, were amazing.
…and it was chock full of those gaffes that we [SW lovers] have come to ignore. I felt it got back to the original feel of the series, rooting for the good guy and the horror of watching the Anniken/Vader transformation. We knew it was coming, but it’s like watching a train wreck; we still go home and watch it on the news, in case we missed anything.
I haven’t commented about the movie on my blog, yet. I think it’s time. Thanks for the post, Lee.
I thought the acting was horrendous…except for Yoda, and he was computer generated. Hayden whosits is particularly awful. Some of the writing was pretty cringe-inducing, too. But visually it was absolutely stunning (except when humans did CGI flips and stuff, that looked terrible).
